Verizon Makes Blockchain Play with Virtual SIM Card Project

Verizon is considering the use of blockchain technology to create virtual SIM cards, and was given a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office toward that end. So reports Coindesk.

The new cards could replace “pre-inserted, branded physical SIM cards.” The virtual SIMS could be assigned to more than one device, transferred between devices and temporarily assigned to others. Verizon has also backed a $15 million funding round for Filament, a company working on blockchain hardware.
