AP Hands Down Ruling On 'Cryptocurrency' Styling

The Associated Press Stylebook issued a new guideline calling for journalists to avoid using “crypto” as shorthand for “cryptocurrency. So reports Coindesk.

The reasoning, states the AP, comes down to confusion over the shorthand for cryptography. The style guide also notes cryptocurrency should be distinguished from virtual currency, like that used in video games, and that “Bitcoin” as a concept, compared to “bitcoin” as a unit of currency, must also be distinguished with proper capitalization.
