Crypto Theft Cases Hinges On Question Of Who Owns Mined Coins

Arapahoe County prosecutors charged Mark Shin for allegedly stealing $9 million worth of the ICON cryptocurrency by taking advantage of a software glitch. So reports a Fox affiliate KDVR.

Shin’s defense attorneys, though, contest the Aurora resident’s actions were rooted in “exactly what ICON’s code allowed at the time” and added “there is no crime because the tokens he minted didn’t belong to anyone else or any other entity.” Each of the three counts he is charged with come with a maximum sentence of 24 years in prison.
