Buffett Meeting with Tron CEO Set to Bridge Tradition with Tech

TRON Foundation CEO Justin Sun has confirmed he will sit down with vocal fintech skeptic Warren Buffett to discuss a myriad of issues regarding the direction of financial technology.

The tech pioneer won the opportunity to meet with Buffett after a record-setting bid at the GLIDE annual eBay charity auction. For the chance to chat with the legendary Berkshire Hathaway CEO, Sun bid $4,567,888. Bidding started at $25,000 before escalating to the all-time high for the 20th annual eBay for Charity Auction for a Power Lunch with Warren Buffett. The auction, to date, has raised $30 million to help support “GLIDE's comprehensive suite of social services that help San Francisco's most vulnerable residents," reads information about the event.

"Getting eBay involved changed the experience from a very local lunch to a worldwide lunch," said Warren Buffett in a statement. "We've not only raised money together, but I've been able to meet very interesting people from all over the world. The one universal characteristic with all the winners is that they have a good time and feel like they've gotten their money's worth."

GLIDE President and CEO Karen Hanrahan expressed deep gratitude to both Buffett and the TRON Foundation, nothing the benefits to the community the fundraiser offers. "On behalf of GLIDE and the communities we serve, I want to thank Warren Buffett for his unwavering friendship and dedication to this auction, and the winning bidder for their generous support," said Hanrahan. "GLIDE's partnership with Warren is 20 years strong, and this year's auction broke all previous records. The funds raised through the Power of One Lunch auction go directly to support GLIDE's programs and services.”

Sun, in a letter announcing he won the auction, said he is aware of Buffett’s skepticism of cryptocurrency, but also noted there is some common ground with respect to blockchain, the underlying tech that drives cryptocurrency transactions. “The long-term value investment strategy and cryptocurrency, in my eyes, are one and the same. We in the community know we have a long road ahead of us to educate the mainstream on blockchain’s value and proper use cases. Rather than trying to get rich quick, we aim to counsel everyone that investment should be about vision and execution,” Sun wrote in an open letter.
