NY Man Indicted for Alleged U.N.-based Cryptocurrency Scam

Asa Saint Clair, a New York man, has been accused of running a cryptocurrency scheme by fraudulently claiming it was connected to a U.N. affiliate “promoting international development through sports,” reads a Department of Justice indictment. So reports The Verge.

Saint Clair allegedly sold investors IGOBIT digital coins with promises of a guaranteed return and stake in the currency. According to information in the article, the coin wasn’t real and the U.N. affiliate, the World Sports Alliance, did not actually do any international work. He faces a wire fraud charge and up to 20 years in prison, the story reads.
